4 Ways of taking accountability for your life's responsibilities

If you are dissatisfied with yourself or your life, take accountability for your life. If we give control to others, we give up our own power. This comes down to blaming others for what has happened in our life. You must take responsibility for your results, whether good or poor, in order to build the life you want. Only you can truly create change in your life.

These activities enable you to acquire responsibility for your life:

  • Do not blame other people. Were your parents excellent role models for you? Maybe they were, and maybe they weren't. Do you have a jerk boss? Maybe. Do you blame them for why things are not going right in your life? There is always going to be someone in your life that you can place blame on. But how does that create the change you are looking for? Action creates change, not blame.

  • Learn from your mistakes. Take stock of what worked and what didn't. Choose to pay more attention to what worked and consider what didn't work a learning opportunity. Learning from your mistakes will help you to avoid similar events in the future.

  • Set targets. Establish future objectives for yourself. Setting goals and creating timelines to complete them will help you feel in charge of your life. You choose the life and experiences that you wish to live.

  • Plan your time. The most critical choice you can undertake in a day is how you spend your time. Set aside time each day to work on the goals you have made for yourself. Some days may require more focused time, and other days you may need less time. You may also find pockets of time that you waste by doing nothing and then you will discover that you have more time. Your future will be determined by how you use your time. Take charge of your life by making changes.
